What is Broderie Anglaise?
Broderie Anglaise, also known as Eyelet Lace or Engish Lace is a 100% cotton-based, or cotton polyester mixed embroidery. Unlike the two other main types of machine embroidery, embroidered tulle and Guipure lace, with this cotton lace, the base fabric is an essential part of the finished embroidery design. Very popular in the form of full-width lace fabric, Broderie Anglaise also get produced as trimmings and in a gallon width.
How is it produced?
At production of an Broderie Anglaise the holes in the design are created by the needle which pierces through the base fabric. Meanwhile the yarn is simply stitched onto the fabric for the rest of the design, This gives this type of lace a three-dimensional look and makes it easier to stitch a coloured yarn onto a white base fabric, and vice versa.

How to work with it?
This type of embroidery is one of the easiest machine embroideries / laces to sew with. The light weight of the Broderie allows a plain fabric to be put underneath and you can also easily frill trims to form a collar or other type of edging.
