Galloons & Insertion Lace

“Galloon” comes from the French “galon”/”galonner” (early 1600’s), meaning “to trim with braid”.  Galloon, like ribbon, can be a non-countable noun: “his livery trimmed with galloon” or “a good selection of galloon”.

So “galloon” covers all manner of braided trims, like the metallic braid all over this guy’s livery.  Galloon can be made with any material: cotton, rayon, metal, whatever.  The term doesn’t cover woven trims, like ribbon. Check out our variety of Eyelet Lace!
