Speciality
Speciality Embroidered Lace
Speciality lace is where AnBella Designs collects the fancy, harder-to-classify embroidery techniques that sit outside the standard guipure, eyelet, tulle and organdy families: beaded and sequinned embroidery for eveningwear glamour, chintz with its lustrous glazed finish, corded lace with raised, outlined motifs, sparkling lurex metallic-thread embroidery, and decorative wool embroidery for cooler-season pieces.
Each of these speciality techniques is sourced as deadstock — limited mill-end rolls from European ateliers rather than made-to-order production — and sold by the metre, so designers, bridal and eveningwear makers, and home sewists can bring a distinctive, textured finish to a project without committing to a full production run. Because speciality lace covers such a range of techniques and bases, quantities of any one design tend to be small from the outset; once it sells through, the exact combination of thread, base and finish will not be repeated. It is a category worth browsing regularly if you like your lace with a little more character.
